Stella Maris School of Lubang

The School "TRUTH IN LOVE"

STELLA MARIS SCHOOL (SMS) is a Catholic Secondary School for boys and girls in the island of Lubang, Occidental Mindoro. It was founded in 1923 by the Society of the Divine Word (SVD). Presently under the Apostolic Vicariate of San Jose, Occidental Mindoro, it aims to prepare its students for college education. Stella Maris School is named after Mother Mary under the title "Star of the Sea" (stella maris) because of its location.
SMS was administered and managed by the Congregation of the Holy Spirit (SSpS) with the SVD Priests for 73 years. In 18 September 1995, the two storey building of the school was destroyed by an earthquake. From the rubble, Stella Maris arose anew through the collective effort of the teachers, parents, alumni and students. In 1996, the school administration and management was taken over by lay administrators when the Sisters of the Holy Spirit decided to leave Lubang island. For more than 80 years of existence, SMS has produced men and women who are now in different fields of endeavor giving witness to true dedication to God, country and fellowmen.
